Candida Infestation and Biotin

biotinIn a research study, a group of Candida sufferers were tested for the biotin levels in their blood streams, and the results showed that an unusually high percentage of the Candida sufferers exhibited a minor to large deficiency of biotin.

In one research study in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa, participants who were lacking in biotin contracted a scaly redness to the skin caused by dilatation and congestion of the capillaries. When samples of these skin liaisons were cultured, the samples began to grow the Candida albicans fungus.

In another study at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Tokyo, when regular yeast were subjected to a biotin deficiency, the yeast turned pathogenic therefore changing into its fungal stage and began to grow hyphae, which are the long, branching filamentous structures or mycelia of a fungus which allows it to dig into the intestines therefore allowing food particles and proteins to enter the blood stream resulting in leaky gut syndrome.

Biotin is a good addition to any Candida treatment since it negatively affects Candida because of its ability to prevent yeast from converting into its pathogenic or fungal form. Biotin does this by interfering with the growth of the Candida. Supplements should not be started until the user has been taking both kefir and a strong probiotic for at least two weeks in order to prevent other B vitamin deficiencies.

A good dosage of biotin during a Candida treatment is 1000-2000 mcg. If the infestation is severe, working up to about 5000-6000 mcg taken in intervals throughout the day for a short time period is acceptable, this means no more than two to three weeks. Molybdenum Amino Acid Chelate should be taken every day as well to protect you from the Candida die-off toxins.

A Human Necessity

You might say that, since Biotin is such a necessary vitamin which is used by every living animal and organism in existence on the earth, it has as many as four official names, they are, biotin, B7, vitamin H, and coenzyme R. This being the fact, you can imagine that there are quite a number of other reasons that biotin is so important to all of us other than using it during a Candida treatment. Biotin is responsible for metabolizing carbohydrates as well as the amino acids and changing the fatty acids into fuel, in other words, it’s capable of changing acids and glucose into energy for the body’s use. This explains why one of the many symptoms of a biotin deficiency is a feeling of low energy and a general run-down feeling.

Other possible symptoms of a biotin deficiency are; hair loss or hair pattern baldness, elevated levels of LDL cholesterol, dry skin as well as skin rashes, inflammation, paralysis, heart problems including heart palpitations, general depression, muscle pain, and a weakened immunity.

As with all B vitamins, obviously the best way to obtain enough biotin is to allow the intestinal bacteria to produce enough biotin to meet the body’s needs. However, if a person has contracted a Candida albicans infestation, they are more likely to have a lack of beneficial flora in the intestines; therefore it’s much less likely that enough of any of the B vitamins are being produced to meet the normal needs. Taking a B complex supplement is not a good idea because of the extremely abnormal balance of the various B vitamins that these supplements normally contain. For the “Recommended Daily Allowance” percentage, each B vitamin should contain 100%; so the label should read 100% RDA for all eight B vitamins. If one particular B vitamin contains 1500% of the RDA and another one contains only 50%, then you can see how quickly one could become deficient in the B vitamin containing the lesser amount. In other words, this imbalance of the RDA’s could cause an imbalance of the normal ratio of B vitamins in the human body therefore creating deficiencies of certain vitamins.

If you will slowly build up to high amounts of probiotics and drink homemade kefir and homemade yogurt as well as eating foods such as naturally fermented sauerkraut, you will be naturally and safely reestablishing the beneficial bacteria in your intestines, and these bacteria will produce a sufficient amount and proper ratio of the B vitamins as long as you feed the beneficial bacterial the correct foods such as artichokes, onions, fresh spinach, Bob’s Red Mill Rice Bran flour, and Bob’s Red Mill Oat Bran Hot Cereal (these last two products can be made into bread using the coconut flour bread recipe and substituting the rice bran flour and oat bran cereal for the coconut flour. However, with a vitamin such as biotin, usually ‘more is needed quicker’ than you would receive by taking time to rebuild the flora and allowing the bacteria to make the biotin. This is why a supplement of biotin is recommended in the website’s Candida Treatment Protocol.

The Coconut Bread recipe can be found on this page of the treatment.

Remember, for a good source of prebiotics for the bacteria, you can substitute Bob’s Red Mill Rice Bran flour and/or Bob’s Red Mill Oat Bran Hot Cereal in place of the coconut flour.
